If I should love her let it be, with the love that You have loved me, so sweet;
But not before I am completely immersed and filled with Your love so deep.
If I should capture her heart let it be, with Your kindness so true and sincere;
But not before I, first, am enamored, enchanted by Your charity that always is present even here.
If I should lead and guide her let it be, with the wisdom You bestow upon me;
But not before I am learned of You and like You be.
if should protect and guard her let it be, with the same tenacity You have me;
But not before I have been helpless and had only You as my only plea.
If I should provide for her let it be, with the providence You place in my hands;
But not before I learn to appreciate Your grace and mercy free.
If I should tend to her let it be, with the care You have tended to me;
But not before I have experienced Your tenderness so soft and intimate.
If I should be angry and cross with her let it be, with temperance and restraint;
But not before I have realized that You are the same and more toward me.
If I should forgive her for the wrongs she will commit against me let it be, with kind forbearance and tender mercies;
But not before I have exulted in your everlasting grace toward the wretch that I am.
If I should inspire confidence and trust in her only let it be, because I am proven worthy;
But not before I, myself, have my confidence and trust built on You as my form foundation.
If she would submit to me and call me, “Lord,” let it be, with gladness and carefree readiness;
But not before my entire being is lain prostrate before You, my LORD, completely surrendered.
If I should inspire her let it be, with hope and liberty without any fear;
But not before I have been inspired by all that You have promised to be for me.
If I should carry her let it be, with strength sure, wisdom true and care unfailing;
But not before I, myself, am carried by You in Your arms forever sure.
If I should give myself over to her and for her let it always and forever be, wholly, joyfully, completely, without any reserve;
But not before I have, to the best of my ability, grasped the extent to which You emptied Yourself for me and her.
